GitMail brings the familiar productivity of a desktop mail client to any modern browser — without moving your mail to a new provider. Each device keeps its own fast local database; your settings, identities, contacts and drafts sync end-to-end encrypted between devices on transport you choose.
Status: early alpha, invite only. The app runs at
app.usegitmail.com for testers. Connect a dedicated
test mailbox only — never a primary account.
Your providers
Generic IMAP/SMTP and JMAP, plus Gmail and Microsoft OAuth. Mail stays with the original provider by default — no mailbox migration.
Encrypted device sync
A small encrypted change stream — not the database file — moves between devices over a hosted relay, your own server, WebDAV, or Git.
Portable MailVault
Accounts, identities, filters, signatures and drafts export as a versioned encrypted archive with an offline recovery path.
Independent
Own codebase, own design system, familiar desktop-mail workflows. The hosted relay is a convenience, never a dependency.

Account and folder tree, sortable message list, reading pane, keyboard navigation, context menus, and a responsive progressive layout.
What works today
An architecture kernel and browser prototype, not a releasable mail client. It demonstrates the encrypted local store, the CRDT operation log, provider account discovery, a live mail loop against real IMAP/SMTP, the unified inbox, groupware destinations, and the settings and lifecycle surfaces. Production persistence, the sync relay, provider certification, security review and legal approvals remain open. Feedback goes through the app's Settings screen.
